The Malta FA Academy team, made up of boys born in 2005, are currently in Barcelona to take part in the Academies World Cup tournament, organised by the renowned Marcet Football Academy.  Paul Gatt, the newly-appointed MFA Academy coach, has selected a squad of 20 players for this seven-a-side tournament which is primarily aimed at aiding the development of teenage players. “The tournament, aimed at boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 13, goes beyond competing,” the organisers said on their website. “At Marcet, we believe that matches aren’t the be-all and end-all of football, but a means of learning within the process of player training.” The 20 members in Gatt’s squad will be divided into two teams to maximise the amount of playing time. Several regional teams from Spain participate in this tournament which gets underway tomorrow (Thursday) and comes to an end on Sunday.MFA ACADEMY SQUADBradlee Abela; Samuel Agius; Ensell Attard; Zak Barbara; Timothy Cachia; Luca Camilleri; Lucas Caruana; Russell Caruana; Isaiah Chukunyere; Ivin Farrugia; Kaiden Fenech; Raul Formosa; Yan Galea; Jake Huber; Kian Leonardi; Myron Micallef; Nicholas Mifsud; Jayden Ekenna Ohaka; Matthias Said; Sven Xerri.TECHNICAL STAFFTechnical Director: Robert GattTeam Manager: Edwin CamilleriCoaches: Paul Gatt, Charlie ScerriDoctor: Daniel McKeanPhysio: Raphael Ellul FalzonKit Manager: Paul Schembri
