Malta FA Women's KO final - preview

The curtains on the 2017/2018 women's football campaign will be brought down tonight as Birkirkara face Mġarr United in the domestic cup final, at the Centenary Stadium (kick-off: 8pm). Buoyed by their recent championship success, their second in a row, Birkirkara will be striving to complete domestic sweep by clinching their 14th Malta FA Women's KO and record another double after last year's success in both local competitions.  Mġarr, on their part, will be competing in their first ever final and after finishing third in the league, they will be fired up to end their season with a silverware in their cabinet.  On the way to the final, Melania Bajada's clan had to cross swords with rivals Hibernians in a thrilling quarter-final which the Stripes claimed 3-1 with goals from Alishia Sultana, Sarah Urpani and Joselene Gafa. However, in the following round, they thrashed Raiders (Luxol) by eight goals to nil with Gafa, Sultana, Stephania Farrugia, Ann-Marie Said and a brace each from Raina Giusti and Tracy Teuma sealing the win.  The Greens, coached by former Premier League manager Patrick Curmi, secured a couple of convincing wins on their way to the final. In the last eight, they scored six past Fgura United with Roxanne Micallef grabbing a hat-trick, Brenda Borg netting twice while Rebecca D'Agostino scoring the other. In the semi-finals, Mġarr won 4-0 against Kirkop United with D'Agostino scoring twice before Claudette Xuereb and Micallef wrapped up the win.  Route to the final: Quarter-finalBirkirkara vs Hibernians 3-1. Mġarr United vs Fgura United 6-0.  Semi-finalBirkirkara vs Raiders (Luxol) 8-0.Mġarr United vs Kirkop United 4-0.
