Swieqi United promoted to BOV First Division

ŻABBAR ST PATRICK 0SWIEQI UNITED          3 Swieqi United have been promoted to the BOV First Division League for the first time after beating Żabbar St Patrick 3-0 in the Relegation/Promotion Play-Off on Sunday afternoon.  Led by coach Billy Mock, Swieqi earned the right to contest this play-off after finishing third in the BOV Second Division while Żabbar occupied the third-from-last position in the first division. Nicholas Schembri was the hero for the Oranges after scoring a brace. Schembri put Swieqi ahead six minutes from half-time and doubled their advantage 12 minutes into the second half. Swieqi completed their comfortable win two minutes into stoppage time when Luke Scicluna concluded a fast counter-attack by putting the ball into an empty net. This will be the first experience for Swieqi United in the second tier of Maltese football, an achievement for this young club. On the other hand, Żabbar St Patrick became the third team to be relegated from the first division, joining Melita and Rabat Ajax who will also play in the second division next season.
