Up-and-coming player Nicole Sciberras is settling well in Italy since joining Italian Serie B side AS Grifone GialloVerde from Mosta last November. Sciberras is keeping her feet on the ground after an eventful period that saw her move to Rome and also being called to the senior women’s national squad, led by coach Mark Gatt. The 16-year-old defender has joined the Malta squad ahead of Thursday’s friendly match against Estonia at the Centenary Stadium (kick-off 6.30 p.m.) Talking to Lazio-based gazzettaregionale.it, Sciberras expressed her satisfaction at being promoted to the senior women’s national team set-up at such a young age. “The objective, or rather the dream now that I’ve been called and also played my first friendly for the senior national team, is to form part of the selection that will represent Malta in the qualifiers for the 2021 European Championship,” Sciberras was quoted as saying. It was in 2012 when Sciberras, then aged 11, was selected to join the National Academy. Three years later, Sciberras made her debut for the national U-15 team and the following year took part in the UEFA Youth U-16 Development Tournament where Malta played Austria, Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein. She was also part of the U-17 squad that obtained a historic win against Montenegro in the UEFA European Women’s Under-17 Championships. Last year, Sciberras was named captain of the Malta Under-17s who finished second in the UEFA Development Tournament. The group contained Estonia, Azerbaijan and Finland. Sciberras’s dream has always been to represent Malta in international football. “I feel very emotional when I hear the national anthem but it motivates me to go out and give out my best in those 90 minutes,” she said. READ THE FULL INTERVIEW BY FOLLOWING THIS LINK:http://www.takeaseat.org.mt/news/news-articles/5a65fdc9ce834e15bce762e9/malta-starlet-sciberras-fulfilling-her-dreams-in-italy
