The Refereeing Centre within the Malta FA is organising another course for new referees, starting on Saturday, 10th February, 2018. The Referees Academy and the Recruitment Unit within the Malta FA's Refereeing Centre are engaged in efforts to encourage youngsters to take up refereeing. The motto – 'Become a referee... Refereeing is Fun’ –  is at the heart of ththis on-going campaign to promote refereeinhg as a career. At 18, Luke Xuereb is a recognised assistant referee after completing a course at the MFA Referees Academy.  “I have officiated more than 100 matches and I can only say that it has been an incredible experience," Xuereb said. "I was forced to quit playing after suffering a serious injury but I wanted to stay in football because I love sport.” Tasmarie Busuttil is another Referees Academy graduate who is currently officiating at grassroots level. “Refereeing is an interesting career," she said. "I didn’t really know what to expect when I joined the Referees Academy. My friends encouraged me to enrol. There were no female students at the time as we were a small group but nowadays I’m a referee and I have a career in front of me. "I have learnt a lot during my time at the Referees Academy.” Interested candidates may apply for beginners' course by sending an e-mail to: referees@mfa.com.mt
