HIBERNIANS 1FLORIANA     0 Hibernians ended a disappointing run of three matches without a win after edging out Floriana at the National Stadium on Sunday.  A balanced match was decided 14 minutes from time. Hibernians were awarded a penalty after Floriana goalkeeper Ini Akpan was adjudged to have tripped debutant Georgia midfielder Giorgi Gorozia inside the box. Jorginho made no mistake from the spot. Gorozia had come on for Bjorn Kristensen 19 minutes from time. The first half had produced few chances with Hibs goalkeeper Andrew Hogg making a fine save to repel a dangerous header by Floriana wing-back Arthur Oyama just before half-time. With this win, Hibs rejoined Birkirkara on the 28-point mark, one behind the fourth-placed Floriana. BOV player of the match: Jorginho (Hibernians). MOSTA          0BIRKIRKARA 3 Birkirkara maintained their revival as they eased past Mosta for their fifth league win in a row. The Stripes are now fifth in the standings and well-placed to challenge for a top-four position and qualification to European competitions. Despite the enforced changes in the Birkirkara line-up owing to the absence of Ryan Scicluna, Ryan Camenzuli, Luke Montebello and Llywelyn Cremona, the Stripes were still superior to Mosta. They took the lead five minutes from half-time when Jake Grech’s cross from the left was met by Srdjan Dimitrov who nodded home from close range. Birkirkara made the points safe 11 minutes into the second half when Bruno Andrade Fernandez de Brito bore down on goal through the middle before hitting a crisp shot that rolled into the bottom corner. The match was over as a contest on the hour when Grech was on hand to tap Dimitrov’s pass into the net to secure a deserved 3-0 win for Paul Zammit’s team. BOV player of the match: Jake Grech (Birkirkara).
