The Malta Under-17 team concluded their group commitments in the Trofeo Nereo Rocco with a 1-1 draw against the youth side of Serie A club Torino on Thursday evening. Needing a win to stand a chance of advancing to the next stage, the Maltese youngsters took some time to settle. Torino held the initiative in the early stages, also hitting the upright, but Malta came more into the picture as the first half moved on. They created three clear chances but were denied by Torino goalkeeper Lewis. The second half continued on the same lines but Torino took the lead through Sandri after 10 minutes. Despite this setback, the Maltese boys retained their composure and kept playing good football. Showing character, Malta equalised on 61 minutes thanks to Alexander Satariano. Malta thought they had won the game when Clyde Bouvet found the net but the goal was disallowed for a very dubious offside. The match thus ended 1-1 which meant that Malta, who had drawn 1-1 with Venezia in their opening match but lost 1-0 to HNK Rijeka in the second, finished level with Torino on two points. HNK Rijeka topped the group with six points despite losing their final Group D match against Venezia (2-0), with the latter also reaching the quarter-finals after finishing second on five points. Coach Silvio Vella started with the following formation: Amara Sylla, Liam McKay, Karl Mohnani, Matthew Portelli, Christian Gauci, Jake Ghio, Bradley Sciberras, Ryan Tonna, Clyde Bouvet, Shaun Dimech, Alexander Satariano.
