Malta FA, Police unfurl detailed logistical plan

At a news conference held earlier on Tuesday at the Centenary Hall, the Malta FA and the police explained all the traffic and security arrangements for the eagerly-awaited Malta-England World Cup qualifier, being played on Friday at the National Stadium. Reporters were addressed by Dr Angelo Chetcuti, the Malta FA General Secretary, Police Inspector Robert Vella and Joe Cassar, the Director of the Malta FA's International and Events Department. ROAD ACCESS TO NATIONAL STADIUM • The National Stadium ring road (perimeter) will be closed from early morning on Thursday, 31st August, 2017. • Access roads around the stadium will be closed from the evening of Thursday, 31st August, 2017. • The Malta FA car parks as well as additional car parks as per attached site plan will not be open to the general public on matchday (SEE MAP). • The Malta FA has made parking arrangements for those persons making use of a wheelchair who have purchased tickets for the match. • Commuters are to follow the instructions to be issued by Police Authorities closer to the date. • Members of the Malta FA Event Team will be on hand to guide pedestrians to the stadium and the relevant sector according to their ticket. MALTA FA OFFICES OPENING TIMES • The Malta FA Registrations Department and Reception will remain open until midnight on Thursday, 31st August, 2017 as this is the last day when clubs can register new players during the summer transfer window. • As explained above, the National Stadium ring road will be closed for traffic on 31st August while the Millennium Stand car park will be closed from 8pm on Wednesday, 30th August. • The Millennium Clinic will be closed between 31st August and 3rd September. • The Millennium Pool will close as of Thursday, 31st August at 12.15 p.m. • The Malta FA gym will be closed all day on Friday, 1st September, 2017.STADIUM OPENING TIME – 18.30 • Gates open at 18.30TICKETING • No tickets can be purchased from the National Stadium. ALL tickets have been sold. • Fans are being reminded that, while the West Stand and Millennium E sectors are on an Allocated Seating basis, the Millennium, North and South Stands are on a Free Seating (first come first served) basis. Indicative signage and stadium stewards will be on site on matchday to give directions to those attending the match.  NURSERIES• Local club nurseries who have been allocated free tickets for the Malta-England match under the Malta FA’s Football Social Responsibility Programme are to collect their tickets from the Millennium D sector. • The nursery members and coaches can sit on the west and east sides of the South Stand as the central area is earmarked for paying fans. • There will be dedicated parking for the buses and vans carrying nursery teams. SECURITY CHECKS AND BODY SEARCHES The police will conduct security checks and body searches on spectators outside the turnstiles to ensure that: • Spectators enter the correct area of the stadium. • Spectators do not bring any objects/substances into the stadium that are likely to be used in acts of violence, or alcohol or fireworks of any kind. • Access is prohibited to known or potential troublemakers, or persons who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. • Flags and banners will not be permitted if attached to solid sticks, etc.OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMMES • Official Matchday Programmes can be purchased from the ticket booths in the following sectors – West C, Millennium D and Centenary Stadium. • MFA-accredited salespersons will be selling Official Matchday Programmes in every sector of the National Stadium.
