Dr Angelo Chetcuti, the Malta FA General Secretary, provided a review of the Association’s work during season 2016-17, including the numerous infrastructural projects and the on-going efforts and initiatives aimed at strengthening its operate at all levels. Having taken over as General Secretary in December following the resignation of Bjorn Vassallo, Dr Chetcuti began his speech by sharing his views on his own transition from vice-president of a club and member of the Association’s Executive Committee to MFA General Secretary. “Until last year, from the perspective of someone who represented a club, the Annual General Meeting was an occasion I personally looked forward to,” Dr Chetcuti told the assembly at the Grand Hotel Excelsior.. “The AGM brings the main stakeholders together, it represents the transition from the season just ended and the new one and an occasion where those who work for the clubs all year round get an idea of what is going on at Ta’ Qali.” “I used to take a glance at the reports, listen to the speeches at the AGM and then exchange views with fellow officials over lunch,” the MFA General Secretary added. “I must admit that, this time around, I was a lot busier preparing for today’s meeting. “However, I want to reassure you that, today, the MFA is run so well that even in times when the General Secretary has just taken up his post, the progress continues unabated. And this is thanks to the commitment and dedication of our staff.” Dr Chetcuti said that, from an administrative aspect, this year was characterised by considerable changes following the departures of Vassallo, who was present for the Malta FA AGM in his new role as Director for the Member Associations (Europe) at FIFA, and Dr Chris Bonett, currently working for UEFA as Integrity Officer. Both Vassallo and Angelo Rigopoulos, the UEFA Head National Associations Governance, the other special guest at the AGM, addressed the assembly. Vassallo presented a FIFA banner to MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo.
