Birkirkara drawn in Group 6 in Women’s Champions League

Birkirkara will face Zurich (Switzerland), Minsk (Belarus) and Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia) in the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying round.

The Stripes, who completed a league and cup double last season, have been drawn in Group 6 with the matches being played in Slovenia between August 22 and 28.


Zurich reached the round of 16 last season.


A total of 40 teams were involved in the qualifying round draw, held earlier on Friday at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon.


Ajax, Olimpija Ljubljana, Sporting CP, WFC-2 Kharkiv, Shelbourne, Kiryat Gat, Partizán Bardejov, Linfield, Istatov, Bettembourg and Martve, Georgia’s first entrants since 2010/11, are making their debut in the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying round.


The 10 group winners and the runners-up with the best record against the teams first and third in their section proceed to join the 21 teams given byes to the 1 September draw for the round of 32, with the two-legged knockout phase commencing in October.
