Bjorn Kristensen reckons that Slovenia will be very tough opponents but the Hibernians midfielder is cautiously optimistic that Malta will collect their first point in Saturday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier. “This game is like any other international match,” Kristensen said. “It’s always important when you are representing your country. It’s a qualifier, so it’s more important for us. We are still without a point, as the coach (Pietro Ghedin) said, so we must try to achieve a good result and start gaining some points.” Kristensen, the 2016/17 MFA Footballer of the Year who has made 20 appearances for Malta, acknowledged that the win over Ukraine has raised the players’ morale ahead of Saturday’s qualifier at the Stozice Stadium (kick-off 18.00). “The spirits are very high,” the 24-year-old said. “We’re expecting to go out for the game with high confidence, hoping to give a good performance and obtain some points.” Defender Steve Borg has set his sights on helping Malta produce another top-notch performance after marking his recall to the national squad with a robust showing against Ukraine. “I returned to the national team, started the game and we were very good as a team... every player gave his 100 per cent and we obtained the desired result,” Borg told www.mfa.com.mt. “A qualifying game is always more difficult but the most important thing is that we give our 100 per cent. “After a win, the morale is high. The players are fine, there are no injuries. “The aim is emulate our performance against Ukraine and hopefully get the same result.” WORDS: Kevin AzzopardiPHOTOS: Paul Zammit Cutajar/MFA
