The MFA Referees’ Department announces another referees’ exchange which sees FIFA Referees Clayton Pisani and Alan Mario Sant, assisted by FIFA Assistant Referee William Debattista and Elite Assistant Referee Paul Apap officiating in the Top Division in Luxembourg, known as Division Nationale, this coming weekend.   The exchange agreement involves two top referees and two top assistant referees from each country being in charge of matches on alternate days with the main referees acting as 4th Officials in the other match. On Saturday 22nd September at 1800hrs Clayton Pisani will be in charge of FC Wiltz 71 vs UN Kaerjeng at the Stadium an der Getzt in Wiltz, while on Sunday 23rd September at 1600hrs Alan Mario Sant will be the referee of the Fola Esch vs Jeunesse Canach clash at the Stadium Emile Mayrisch in Esch-Alzette.  William Debattista and Paul Apap will be the assistant referees in both matches. The referees from Luxembourg officiating in Malta this weekend are FIFA Referee Laurent Kopriwa, Elite Referee Frank Bourgnon, FIFA Assistant Referee Claudio De Carolis and Elite Assistant Referee Christophe Pires. Laurent Kopriwa will be the referee of the Birkirkara vs Sliema Wanderers Premier League match being played on Saturday 22nd September at 1915hrs at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun, while Frank Bourgnon will be in charge of the Mosta vs Qormi Premier League match being played on Sunday 23rd September at 1900hrs.at the National Stadium in Ta’ Qali.  Claudio De Carolis and Christophe Pires will be the assistant referees in both matches. It is to be noted that three of the four match officials from Luxembourg officiating in Malta this weekend, namely Laurent Kopriwa, Claudio De Carolis and Christophe Pires, are currently attending a UEFA specialised development programme at CORE (Centre of Refereeing Excellence) and are being coached by MFA’s Director of Refereeing, Adrian Casha. In a short comment, Clayton Pisani remarked that “these exchanges are of valuable experience to us and are indeed a motivating factor for all local referees.”  Alan Mario Sant also expressed his satisfaction and stated that “this exchange further underlines the sterling work being carried out by the MFA to grant exposure for Malta’s Elite referees in various European domestic championships.”  Both FIFA Referees believe that such matches help local referees improve their refereeing standard and also underlines the trust that other national associations have in the level of Maltese referees. The referees’ exchange with Luxembourg builds on similar exchanges already held in previous months as part of the reform in the refereeing sector.  Details of other exchanges being held in September and October will be announced shortly.
