BOV Women’s Leagues – Preview The second match day of 2017 will be completed this week, with fixtures from both the BOV First and Second Division.Gozo and Hibernians commenced this match day on Sunday, when the Gozitans hosted the defending champions. The Paolites produced a superlative performance, netting seven past their opponents, to reduce their gap to seven points behind Birkirkara before the leaders take the field this week.   BOV Women’s First DivisionLeaders Birkirkara will take on Mgarr United in a match which can have a decisive outcome for both team’s fate for this season. The Stripes are currently leading the table at 25 points, nine points ahead Mgarr, and with a win they could write the Greens out of the title contention, while restoring their ten-point lead over Hibernians. Meanwhile, the Greens could make a title statement if they could pull an upset and clinch victory, staying within six-points only from Birkirkara, paving the way to a crescendo ending for the 2016/2017 season – (@2015, Mgarr Ground)In the other encounter, relegation discourse will be the main theme as Kirkop United and Raiders (Luxol) lock horns with each other. The Reds are third bottom with 12 points, enjoying an eight-point lead over Raiders, who are currently occupying the play-off spot. A win for either side would be crucial for their season aspirations – (@2015, Charles Abela Stadium – Mosta) BOV Women’s Second DivisionTwo interesting matches will characterise the second tier this week, with the first one being Tarxien Rainbows against Kirkop United Team B. Only three points separate third place Tarxien from Kirkop, who are currently bottom of the league. The Rainbows will be striving to win, in order to restore their chances for a play-off spot, while Kirkop will aim to leapfrog the teams above them for the first time – (@2015, Charles Abela Stadium – Mosta)Meanwhile, Hamrun Spartans and Mosta will cross swords with each other in the other match. Mosta are currently in second place at 13 points, and collecting a win from this tie would be vital for them to stay on course for a play-off spot, with Swieqi United at this point of the league look to have sealed promotion. On the other hand, the Spartans will be eyeing a win in this match, as taking three points against Mosta would put them within touching distance from the Blues – (@2015, Zebbug Ground) For further details about the domestic league, tune in to our official page on Facebook, MFA Women’s Football’s page.
