Following last week’s event at our sister island, Gozo, the MFA Technical Centre’s Grassroots & Women’s Department, in collaboration with SportMalta and the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education (DQSE),organized the second FIFA Live Your Goals Festival in Malta on the 2nd of December at the Centenary Stadium, as part of their mission to develop the grassroots’ level in women’s football.   For this event, the attendees were primary school girls from Zebbug Primary (St. Ignatius College), Msida Primary (St. Theresa College) and San Anton School, amounting to 180 girls with only 13% of the participants already linked with local clubs. The girls had the chance to be guided by our qualified MFA coaches, clubs’ coaches and also members of the Malta Women’s National Team including vice-captain and FIFA Live Your Goals Ambassador Charlene Zammit. For the first time ever, the girls had the opportunity to also listen and participate in an entertaining but fundamental talk from Nutritionist and Physiotherapist Johann Zarb, a representative of Dar Kenn Ghal Sahhtek, a residential and semi residential facility aimed at providing a holistic treatment to patients with eating disorders and weight behavioural problems. This interactive talk was held to educate the girls about healthy eating and exercise. Dar Kenn Ghal Sahhtek also presented the schools with nutrition information booklets.  This initiative has been successful as numerous girls who are not affiliated with any local clubs participated and understood that this beautiful game can also be played by girls. By means of this nationwide FIFA Live Your Goals campaign and free open days carrying this slogan, the MFA aims to generate enthusiasm among girls between 6 and 11 years of age while also linking these girls to local clubs in order to increase the number of girls in the local girls’ nurseries.  The MFA presented the participants with t-shirts, stickers, flyers and balloons while the local clubs shared information and details about their work within women’s football in order to attract the girls. The MFA thanks the schools for their participation and their vital role in making this another successful FIFA Live Your Goals event and looks forward to developing their relationship further by holding in-school football sessions.
