The Malta Football Association’s laudable initiatives in campaigning for social solidarity are again in the forefront with their support of the12th edition of the Puttinu Football Marathon which is currently underway.  The MFA together with Puttinu organisers yet again organised the opening game for this worthy cause where the teams playing in the opening match werea mixture of ‘Dar Kenn Għal Saħħtek clients led by MFA coach Adelaide Silva on one side and Pierre Brincat seeing to the Women’s Under 17and Senior National Teams. This year the opening of the activity wasshared with ‘Dar Kenn Għal Saħħtek’, a residential and semi-residential facilityin Mtarfaaimed at providing a holistic treatment of patients with eating disorders and obesity. ‘Dar Kenn Għal Saħħtek’benefits from football sessions provided regularly by the MFA as part of the MFA Social Responsibility Department’s projectas part of the‘Football For Life Campaign’. This project involves the employment of coaches by the MFA who are specifically engaged on a long-term basis with selected minority groups through the association’s partnership with the groups’ respective organisations. The game of football is thus being used to encourage inclusion within society, help prevent sociological problems and help provide a better quality of life. The coaches are dealing with different sectors such as people undergoing rehabilitation after drug abuse, people with physical disabilities and minority groups with eating disorders and obesity. There is also another area which deals with creating a safeguarding policy and plan which will eventually be diffused within the association and its member clubs. The MFA encourages all football fans to book a pitch and play at the Puttinu Cares Football Marathon this weekend!
