Gianluca Lia Malta Women's National Team returned to action following their European qualifications back in April when they faced Estonia in their first of their couple fixtures against Estonia themselves. Mark Gatt's girls managed to end the match in a 1-1 draw despite having the occasions to pull a winner. Striker Ylenia Carabott netted for the Maltese side early in the second half after Estonia had gone in front middle way into first half.  The Maltese had a shaky start but started to settle and impose themselves on the pitch. Estonia though, were a bit superior in terms of possession and physique making it difficult for the Maltese to react. After a couple of weak efforts from the home side, Signy Aarna blasted a shot past Janice Xuereb on the 35th minute following an indecision in the Maltese midfield with the Estonian midfield ready to avail from their mistakes. In the second 45 minutes, Malta pushed forward in search of the equalizer which they managed to get through Ylenia Carabott who converted her penalty. Our girls continued to boss the game but they struggled to penetrate their opponents' defense with the match ending at 1-1. Venue: Sportland Arena, Estonia. Referee: Esther Azzopardi (Malta). Final Score: 1 – 1 (HT 1 – 0). Scorers: Signy Aarna 35' (E), Ylenia Carabott 52' penalty (M). ESTONIA: Getter Laar; Grete-Lilijane Kuppas, Liis Lepik, Pille Raadik, Ketlin Saar, Kethy Ounpuu ©, Kaire Palmaru, Katrin Loo, Kristina Bannikova, Signy Aarna, Miina Kallas. Coach: Keith Robert Boanas. MALTA: Janice Xuereb; Alishia Sultana, Jade Flask (Kim Parnis 87’), Charlene Zammit ©, Stephania Farrugia, Shona Zammit, Antoinette Sammut, Brenda Borg, Emma Xuereb (Martina Borg 46’), Rachel Cuschieri (Gabriella Zahra 80’), Ylenia Carabott (Dorianne Theuma 72’). Coach: Mark Gatt
