Gianluca Lia Kirkop United and Mgarr United will be crossing swords tonight when they conclude Matchday 1 from the BOV Women’s 1st Division which commenced yesterday. Both teams are striving towards a positive season as both teams want to improve on what they did last season.  From one side, we have Mgarr United whom after last year’s crescendo ending in the season saw them transforming into a top team, capable also of beating Birkirkara. Moreover, their U16 team won the double when they topped the league and won the domestic k/o, cementing their status as one of the best youth sectors on the island. On the other hand, Kirkop United want to forget last season’s disappointment, although they ended in the Championship pool by building a team around youth players. The departures of players like Jade Flask and Oriana Bedingfield will be crucial but coach Kevin Ellul will be excited to put on stage new talents. Meanwhile, coach Kevin Ellul is determined to improve his team’s quality and as he replied to one of our questions, he is confident that his team can perform well despite the departures of some key players. Sharon Constantino, who will be wearing the armband for Kirkop United, stressed her coach’s words by adding that despite last year they did not perform very well, they are prepared for a new season and naturally, no one would like to start the league with a loss. Mgarr United’s coach Raymond Vella said that his team prepared very well for the upcoming season while he is also looking forward to see how his new elements, the members of the U16 squad will influence his playing system with their winning mentality. Meanwhile, captain Antoinette Sammut said that they should first adapt to Senior level but she has no doubts that once they are accustomed to that level, they will perform very well.
