Malta’s new national football team coach is Pietro Ghedin. He is on his second stint in this role, after having guided our team’s fortunes between July 1993 and November 1995.    Negotiations leading up to the Italian’s appointment were concluded recently with the involvement of MFA president Norman Darmanin Demajo and Chief Executive Officer, Bjorn Vassallo. This followed the decision by the association’s Executive Committee, backed by the Council. Ghedin, a respected coach in Italy, having guided several of his country’s representative teams, including the women’s team before taking up his appointment in Malta, will be seeking to steer our national team for the next three and a half years. His first competitivetask will be that of leading Malta in their Preliminary Group B commitments in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. It will definitely not be an easy assignment as we seek to turn a new page in our international ventures. We are aware that consistently positive results were hard to come by. As a result, our national team’s targets may be relatively mundane, but higher goals should be a priority as the Italian coach sets the team’s sights for his term. His responsibilities are demanding and under the scrutiny of our football fraternity. Unfortunately, our background on the international stage is akin to low-profile performances, with disappointing results tempered by the occasional salvo. We would want a more positive scenario in this respect, one which would lift our feelings and affection for our national team. We feel confident that Ghedin’s credentials and expertise can lead the team to a better future.   Find us on FACEBOOK   -   MALTA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION - 1900
