Pietro Ghedin, in the Match Day -1 press conference organised yesterday afternoon, was asked about the last match against Norway and if it will help to face Italy. “We are here to do our best, I am sad like my players about what happened against Norway. We do not have a bad match because we want to but because our opponents were in a much better condition for example. We are probably inferior in some conditions and probably we had a bigger pressure to perform after the two relatively good matches we had against Slovakia and Croatia even though we lost. This coincided with a disappointing match were we played badly in a lot of aspects and I hope we can make up for it tomorrow.” Michael Mifsud was asked about the motivation needed against Italy after recently playing against this team and having created some chances having also hit the post with one of his powerful blasts. He said “the game against Norway is water under the bridge now and we are fully focused on the game tomorrow against Italy. We had a couple of occasions to score against Italy here, we played our game we enjoyed the game and of course we knew it was going to be hard against such an opponent. This team are World Cup Champions and we look forward to tomorrow, we are excited and I feel we are well prepared. As a team we will give our very best and see what happens”. Andrei Agius feels this is a special occasion for him after spending eleven years playing there in Lega Pro. He said “In the last edition I was lucky I played away in Modena and then I was not part of the team when Italy came here so I am looking forward to play in front of our home supporters” Young Zach Muscat will be his third cap if he plays against Italy. “We have looked at the game against Norway as well as the match to the match Italy played against Azerbaijan. We know we made certain mistakes from our past matches but we also take with us a lot of positives. As a team we are looking forward to this match and the bigger the exposure of the match the more enthusiasm we have and the more pressure there is the better our performance is. We need to work as a team, and we hope for a better performance than our last match” he said. It is a complete sell out at the National Stadium for Malta against Italy on Monday at 20:45Hrs with the match being shown live on TVM 2 and RAI 1.
