VALLETTA’S RYAN FENECH IS THE ‘2014 PLAYER OF THE YEAR’

The Valletta and Malta midfielder Ryan Fenech has claimed the MFA’s top award when he was voted ‘2014 Player of the Year’, during the MFA Awards evening on Friday 27 June. The player topped the votes ahead of Jonathan Caruana (Valletta), Paul Fenech, Edward Herrera and Rowen Muscat, all of Birkirkara.  Jhonnatthan Benitez De Conceico, another Birkirkara player, won the ‘Foreign Player of the Year’ award while the ‘Coach of the Year’ honour went to Birkirkara’s Paul Zammit. Zach Muscat of Birkirkara scooped the ‘Young Player of the Year’ award, while the ‘Best Goal of the Year’ honour  went to another Yellow Reds player, Edward Herrera,      The ‘Top Scorer’ award was shared between three players, Edison Luis Dos Santos, Jhonnatthan Benitez de Conceicao and Stanley Ohawuchi of Hibernians, Birkirkara and Sliema Wanderers respectively. The honours of Player of the Year and top scorer in each of the First, Second and Third Divisions went to Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna (Pieta), Timothy Thomas (Senglea) and Giovanni Galea of Sirens. Dorianne Theuma of Hibernians was voted the best player in the women’s league, with Ylenia Carabott, also of Hibernians, winning the top scorers’ prize in the First Division. Francesca Cauchi of Tarxien took the top scorers’ honour in the Second Division league. The ‘Best Youth Player’ award went to Jurgen Degabriele of Hibernians while Ferdinando Apap of Xewkija Tigers was voted Gozo FA ‘ Player of the Year’. The ‘Fair Play’ award went to Zabbar St Patrick, with the President’s award going to UEFA Under 17 Tournament director, Joe Cassar. Kevin Azzopardi, Paul Caruana, Mariano Debono and Joe Cassar Naudi were presented with the referees’ awards.
