The football community in Malta is deeply saddened by the sudden demise of Basil Chibueze, the Marsa FC striker. The player, a Nigerian, was a naturalised Maltese and was a prominent scoring cog for Marsa, having netted 10 goals in last season’s league campaign for his team.  The player, almost 25, was taken ill while jogging earlier this week and passed away at Mater Dei Hospital. It is to be noted that his brother Ikechukwe, who was 23, died in similar circumstance at St Luke’s Hospital in 2007. He had played for Imqabba and Mosta. The MFA expresses its condolences for the player’s next of kin and the Marsa FC clan.
