Gibraltar beat Malta in an international friendly match played in Faro, Portugal to register their first ever win in their international football history. Malta enjoyed a handsome supremacy of ball possession throughout the ninetly minutes as Gibraltar mastered a game of containment. A tactic which proved effective as Maltese strike partners Schembri and Mifsud, who looked well below their best, never got to sorts wiht the islanders' backline. This result for Gibraltar came just days after they earned another reespectable 1-1 draw against Estonia. Apart from a long range volley by R. Birifa which hit the top of the crossbar a few minutes after the re-start, Malta never looked like finding the Gibraltar net, with the home side creating a chance in each half of the game one of which finishing behind Malta Keeper A. Hogg after an erratic clearance by substitute Camilleri gave K. Gassiaro the chance to grab what proved to be the winning goal after 63mins. Malta Starting Line-up:,  A. Hogg, S. Borg, J. Caruana, A. Agius, C. Failla, P. Fenech, R. Muscat, R. Fenech.R. Briffa, M. Mifsud and A. Schembri.
