  • 03 June 2016  FIFA Referee Esther Azzopardi officiated the European Women’s Championship 2017 Qualifying Stage Group 3 match France–Greece, played at Stade Roazhon Parkin Rennes.  Her assistant referees were Biljana Atanasovski (FYR of Macedonia) and May Moalem (Israel), with Aurelie Labadot Cadinot (France) as 4th Official.  UEFA Referee Observer Irina Mirt (Roumania) assessed the performance of the officials.

 

  • 03 to 06 June 2016  The Malta FA Refereeing Department organized a three-day seminar for all participants who presently form part of the Talent & Mentor two-year program through which promising match officials from the lower ranks are closely monitored by a mentor.  Following two successful similar programs started in 2011, the current onestarted in October 2015 and endsin May 2017, features eight match officials, namely Darryl Agius, Christopher Azzopardi, Shaun Calleja, Ivan Galea, Kieran Parnis, Dusan Petrovic, Daniel Portelli and Theodore Zammit. Their mentors are Philip Agius, Paul Caruana, Gaetano DeGabriele and Stephen Mallia.  The seminar dealt with topics such as personality, teamwork and cooperation, handball,and the handling of key match situations; however, most of the time was dedicated to analyzing the participants’ own performances during the UEFA Development Tournaments for boys and girls held in Maltaa few months before, under the guidance of Referee Observer Antonio P. Briguglio.  The seminar was coordinated by Acting Director of Refereeing Kevin Azzopardi, who reminded participants that such an opportunity brings along added responsibility to practice on the field of play what is learnt in the lecture room, as well as to assist and support other young match officials.

 

  • 11 June 2016  Referees’ Committee Meeting chaired by Alex Manfrè, Malta FA Vice-President.

 

  • 14 June 2016  Collective training sessions in preparation for the upcoming season resumed, ahead of the Fitness Test for all categories being held in early August.

 

  • 27 June 2016  FIFA referee Esther Azzopardi  was invited by producer and presenter Maria Coppolaon her television evening programme Sportivaon SmashTV.

 

  • 28 June 2016  FIFA referee Trustin Farrugia Cann officiated the UEFA Champions League 2016/2017 – 1st Qualifying Round (1st Leg) match The New Saints FC (Wales)–SP Tre Penne(San Marino), played at Park Hall Stadium in Oswestry, Wales.  His assistant referees were FIFA officials Mitchell Scerri and Jurgen Spiteri, while Elite referee Malcolm Spiteriwas 4th Official.  UEFA Referee Observer Ioannis Tsachilidis from Greecewas appointed to assess the performance of the officials, while Arturs Gaidels from Latvia was the UEFA Match Delegate.
