Malta FA Parenting the Young Footballer

Overview

Programme Overview

This comprehensive 9-session course is designed exclusively for parents of young football players. Through a series of engaging sessions, we will explore various crucial aspects that contribute to their child’s success both on and off the field.

We will focus on the role of the parent and how parental support can be most effective. Parents will gain insights into recognizing good football academies and building support mechanisms around their child. The course will also have a theoretical and a practical session on nutrition & hydration where participants will understand the nutritional needs of young footballers and the impact of proper nutrition on performance and recovery.

There will be sessions that target the theme of winning, competition, and development in youth football. They will emphasize on how crucial it is to have academies adopting a person and player-centred approach and on defining success beyond the scoreline. Child Development will be another important theme that will be discussed. Participants will explore the stages of child development, including physical, cognitive, and psycho-social aspects.

Social Media will also be spotlighted. Participants will gain awareness of the impact of social media on young players, how they can develop strategies for positive engagement and how to establish boundaries, promote online privacy, and tackle cyberbullying. Physical training and how parents can optimise their child's physical development and learn strategies for managing injuries and recovery will be the focus of another session.
