The MFA Integrity Officer, Franz Tabone was at Birkbeck College, University of London Sport Business Centre, very recently for part of the seminar series which included the launch of ‘The Insider’s Guide to Match Fixing in Football’, the latest book written by Declan Hill, an investigative journalist, documentary-maker and academic.   In his previous book, ‘The Fix: Organised Crime and Soccer’, Hill uncovered an intriguing, riveting, and compelling way, some of the best kept secrets of the modern-day fixers and their accomplices. This second book is more of an academic nature as opposed to "The Fix". It gives a valuable insight into match-fixing which is based on the doctoral thesis of Hill at the University of Oxford. ‘The Insider’s Guide to Match-Fixing in Football’  is an analysis of the motivations, the mechanisms and the methods within this modern form of fixing.Academics, Media, Players' Agents, Betting Experts and Analysts, FIFPro, English FA and others coming from different parts of the globe attended this event. Franz Tabone was introduced by Hill as one of the leading Integrity Officers within UEFA's ranks.  Tabone was asked to make a presentation about his work and the initiatives of the Malta Football Association to tackle match fixing. The MFA Integrity Officer  took the opportunity to introduce and explain the format and content of the forthcoming clubs' education workshops to be held in conjunction with Sportradar , "Say NO to MATCH FIXING', scheduled to start in the new year.Tony Higgins of FIFPro also made a brief presentation highlighting the importance of players' salaries and clubs' obligations. Failure of clubs to honour their commitments will attract fixers to step in and tempt players leading to further problems in the match-fixing scenario.Participation in such events has given Franz Tabone the opportunity to further expand our network whilst we are also being recognised as a leader in this field.
