Malta ramped up their build-up for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on Sunday with two training sessions today. National coach Pietro Ghedin used the second session this afternoon to organise a friendly between the players in his senior squad. Three players from the Malta B squad, Birkirkara right-back Cain Attard, Hibernians midfielder Johann Bezzina and Michael Johnson, the St Andrews defender, were called up to take part in today’s warm-up which comprised two halves of 25 minutes each. The players in the Malta B squad had the first of two planned practice sessions on Tuesday at the MFA Training Grounds. The second session is scheduled for Thursday evening. Ghedin is expected to finalise his 20-man squad by Friday when the players are due to check in at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, their base for home games. Rowen Muscat and Jurgen Pisani have been ruled out with injuries. Slovakia, who are third in Group F on six points, are expected to land in Malta on Saturday.
