The 22-year-old Birkirkara and Malta female player will go down in the records of the Maltese game as the first woman footballer to play professionally overseas. Rachel Cuschieri has left Birkirkara FC to join football club Appollon in Cyprus.    This was announced by the Cypriot club who said that terms were agreed for the Maltese player to join the team together with Dutch player Marije Brummel. The contract will see her form part of the team until May 2015. Cuschieri is very enthusiastic about her new venture and said that she is looking forward to taking up this challenge and gain more experience in her career. The girl is expected to join the team in the coming days in preparation for the Champions League qualifying tournament which will see Appollon play against teams from Lithuania, Faroe Islands and Albania early in August. The Malta Football Association, her club in Malta and the local football community wish her the best of luck.
