The expectations and hopes have now come to an end. Valletta are the new local football champions after beating rivals B’kara 2-0 in the last match of this campaign.  The fans flocked into the stadium in their thousands for a seasonal best of 10,633, with the atmosphere reaching its best as the players walked onto the field of play for the match to kick-off, with the yellow and red stripes coreography of B’kara covering the whole of their enclosure sector and certainly dominating the scene. It did not however take long for the Valletta fans to go into jubilation mode as with hardly two minutes of the match gone, their team took the lead with a superb strike from Shawn Bajada’s freekick. From then on, the lilywhites always looked as the more composed and concentated of the two outfits and always managed to deal with the at times erratic and disorganised efforts ot the team from B’Kara. It was no surprise when another ex B’Kara player (Roderick Briffa), who came into the match as a substitute, sealed the matter with an injury time low drive from the edge of the box, to send the valletta fans running all over the field, celebrating their 22nd title in the club history.
