MFA Swimming School

Swimming is a lifetime sport from which the body and the whole person benefit! But what is it that makes swimming so beneficial? That depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Regular swimming builds up endurance, muscle strength and cardio-vascular fitness. It can also serve as a cross-training element to complement your regular workouts.

Swimming is more than a sport and a fun activity; it is also an essential life skill. Teachers and coaches all over the world have different opinions about how and when children should be taught to swim. However, in general it is believed that the younger a child learns the better.

The MFA Swimming School has now been running for almost 4 years.  Mr. Alfred Cachia started this school with only 10 children and nowadays more than 120 children attend swimming lessons each term.  At the MFA Swimming School children start learning how to swim from the tender age of three.

The MFA Swimming School system requires children to achieve specific criteria in order to advance to the next group.  Each of the four groups have their own identities: 

Group A            Guppy

Group B            Sea Turtle

Group C            Sea Otter

Group D            Orca

In the final sessions the coaches assess the swimmers, and feedback will be given to the child and the parents.  Those who reach the set criteria will move up to the following group in the next Swimming School Term.  Children will be given a Certificate of Participation indicating the skills achieved.  The aims of this new approach are to improve the level of teaching within the swimming school and to increase parents' awareness of what their children are achieving by attending the swimming lessons.

Aquatone Classes
Aquatone exercise is the ideal workout for people of different fitness levels.  This workout is popular among people of all shapes and sizes and of all ages as well.  The benefits of aqua aerobic exercise are achieved with relative ease and you can increase the challenges to the activity with water exercise equipment too.

Benefits of Aquatone:
  • Aquatone is good for those injured, undergoing rehabilitation, the elderly, pregnant women, those who have not exercised in a while, and those who are overweight
  • less stress on your joints
  • you can change the intensity by altering the speed and size of your movements
  • non weight bearing
  • the water provides resistance, from all directions
  • you generally burn more calories due to the resistance of the water. However, this will depend on your own technique. It is easy to slack off and actually burn less calories!
A new course is starting on Thursday 3rd June 2010.  This course is open for adults.  Course fee is €30.

Parties

At the MFA Swimming Pool we can also organise birthday parties.  We can provide you with a 1hr entertaining session at the pool, and then an area where you can hold your birthday celebrations with your friends.
